Flash Cards Instructions
For all versions of the flash cards, there are several options that should be selected before you begin. If you want to be able to find your high score, you will want to use a unique set of initials. Use upper and lower case letters to make your initials even more unique. Once the options have been selected, click on the START button and start answering questions. Type your answers into the empty answer box and submit your answer by pressing the ENTER key.
Once you've answered all of the questions, you will get a summary of how you did. This is given in the form of a percent correct and a score. To get a higher score, simply select more difficult options and a higher number of questions.
Whole Numbers Flash Cards
The whole number flash cards allow you to practice addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division with whole numbers. Select the operations you want, the minimum and maximum values for the two numbers, and the number of questions. The maximum value for the two numbers is 9999, so you can practice up to four-digit numbers with these flash cards.
Integers Flash Cards
The integers flash cards allow you to practice addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division with integers between -9999 and +9999. The options are very similar to the whole numbers flash cards, but you can also select to see parentheses around positive integers if you prefer it that way. You can optionally include a + sign in your answer, but it isn't necessary for positive integers. For negative integers, on the other hand, you will have to include the - sign.
Fractions Flash Cards
The fractions flash cards allow you to practice addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division with fractions and mixed numbers. The options for the fractions flash cards are a little different. Start by selecting the operations to use. Next, select the type of fractions that you will see in the questions. Remember, you will get higher scores, the more difficult the option is. The denominators included in the fractions flash cards always include 2, 5, and 10, but you can optionally also include 3/4/6 or 8/9/12 or 7/11. Select one or more difficulty levels. These apply to the addition and subtraction questions only. Common denominators do not require you to find any equivalent fractions. Easy denominators require you to find an equivalent fraction for one of the fractions in the question. Uncommon denominators require you to find equivalent fractions for both fractions in the question. If you select "no simplifying," all correct answers are counted as correct no matter if they are improper fractions or could be simplified. If you select "simplifying," your answer will only count as correct if is given in lowest terms. The "simplifying and changing to a mixed number" option requires that you simply all fractions to mixed numbers, if necessary, and express the fractions in lowest terms.
To input answers in the fractions flash cards, you can use your mouse or the tab key to switch between boxes. In order to submit your answer with the "Enter" key on your keyboard, the cursor must be in the denominator box.
Decimals Flash Cards
The decimals flash cards allow you to practice addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division with decimals to 1, 2 or 3 places. Because some decimal numbers might have a lot of decimal places with multiplication and division, you must set the maximum number of decimal places you will use in your answer. Set the range for the first number and the number of decimal places to include. For the second number, you can choose to have only whole numbers shown or another decimal number. Choose the number of questions then click on the Start button. Enjoy!
